It’s
been a while but today I am here for a very fun yet enlightening review of ‘plus
size swimsuit/lingerie’ store. Wearing SWIMSUIT to most people around the world
would be a NORMAL thing, to be wearing one & on top it enjoying it as well,
but for people dealing with body-issues, lack of self-confidence & overall
uber self-awareness (not the good kind) it’s a MAJOR ISSUE, some people are
still ashamed of the way they look & feel, so when brands stand up, take
notice & include all shapes & sizes, making every individual feel
included, it’s a big deal. The few of us who overthink everything, are
petrified of ‘what people’ will say, overcoming or even taking a step in the
direction of us becoming ‘free’ it’s a huge deal – to be stepping out in a
swimsuit on a holiday at the beach!! This month on my 30th birthday I
went through a one such experience.
I turned 30th this month on the 2nd,
my husband surprised me with a week long holiday on the beautiful island of Mauritius,
I was super excited but the very next second it hit me - it was a ‘beachy’ vacation ; that means I will have to wear
swimsuits, my face fell, I hated myself for thinking like that, turned to my
husband who was making all the plans & said ‘babe I do not have a swimsuit’, he said lets go and get one then, without
hesitation or anything, that’s when I decided that my 30th birthday on mother earth was going to be EPIC.
I reached out to my trusty ‘plus size’ blogger babes here in Dubai, they always
come through (btw if you are not following their account, you should, its
@meplussizebloggers on IG), they hooked me up with the amazing team and store
here in Dubai called TKD Lingerie, specializing
in PLUS SIZE & CURVY swimsuits & lingerie (cups D-K), the whole store is
dedicated to making curvy-woman feel right at home & normal (the fact that I have to use this term in
this day n age, to justify a feeling towards ones god-gifted body, baffles me
but that’s the world & climate we live in these days where we have to
justify & explain the "NORMAL").
TKD LINGERIE, DUBAI.
The minute I reached out to the TKD ladies, they gave me an appointment & time asap for that day itself, they were so kind & gracious, that at first,
I was taken aback ( if you have lived in Dubai
you know what I am talking about) I wouldn’t lie, a person like me who
lives in a shell, it’s very unlike me to open up to people & let them in.
In all of 10 mins I met the gorgeous Bridgit (who, btw is a ray of sunshine, I must say, trust me you need to meet
her to know how gorgeous she is & funny too), who warmly welcomed me, ushered
me into the trial room and told me to remove my clothes, NOW I take TIME to get
comfy with my doc over a couple of appointments, the DOC, being the one person from whom you aren't supposed to have any inhibitions with, along with some other
people in your life, but you know what I mean, so imagine my fear at that moment
but that’s when I realized that THAT’S what THIS whole process was about –
COMING OUT OF MY COMFORT ZONE & TAKING PRIDE IN MY
BODY, NO INHIBITIONS whatsoever.
So TKD, trust me every woman in Dubai or GCC
region needs a trip down to that store, the team makes you feel welcomed & important not just as a customer but as a woman too,
they enlighten you on sooooo many things regarding & including - choosing
your RIGHT bra size, style & overall sass! A BRA is something we as woman
always get wrong, I do not know why but we generally do end up getting the
wrong fitting, size & style for our body-shape, so when after so many years
I was told that I was given a wrong size (which
btw was measured by a very well known, established lingerie brand in the world,
every woman goes pink for them) I was shocked!
A detailed talk & analysis later which
consisted off how one should go about finding the RIGHT size & cup I was
enlightened, all this was done with NO MEASURING TAPE, yes ladies no measuring
tape, just by trial-n-error method, because one size/cup might be right for one
person but that same size & cup for the same measurement might not sit right on
another, frustrating logic but so so true & relevant! Information about how
to take care of ones delicate’s, how often to wash them (wash ONLY with hands), Bridget was so forthcoming
with all this information.
I was given the right size within 20 mins of
me being there & on top of it SO MANY STYLES to choose from, ranging from
the everyday-jane to the sexy vixen, trust me they have it all. TKD has so many

The ones I picked up are from a beautiful
brand called PANACHE – I picked up 2 swimsuits & a bra. The whole week of
my holiday all I was doing was wearing them from morning till night, they were
that good & comfortable.
Both the swim suits have built in Bra’s in
them, so your boobies are "spill' protected, trust me it happens and it did happen to me once,
thankfully it was in a pool with no people around, that swimsuit was from
boohoo, I love that suit but it had no protection whatsoever. These swimsuits have a
nice secure clasp too, at the back which gives so much support. The ladies with
bigger cup can understand what I am talking about.
The black BRA that I picked up was a game
changer, so much support & lift, it’s amazing what a right size & cup
can do to boost your confidence in your body & self. This was my first lingerie from TKD but def
not my last. The underwire does not cut into my ribs which I love, it keeps
them supported without suffocating them, which for us busty ladies is an issue
when it comes to underwire/lifting bra’s.
The Black Gathered Swimsuit.
This was such a fun one to wear, the fact that
it has gathers at the sides it gives the illusion of a nice waist line, it also
lends itself to give a nice silhouette to the body – shapewise. I loved wearing this one so
much. This also has a built-in bra inside the suit, so great support – mentally
& physically.
The Purple White Piped Gathered Swimsuit.
I loved wearing this one too & got so many
compliments for this one. This was the first one I tried in store also, swimsuit
wise & OMG it’s a fav of mine. The color suits me so much, the built is
amazing & that built in bra is just an added advantage. It fits like a
glove & looks good doing that.
So now that you ladies know where to pick your
essentials from, thank me later because trust me once you experience how these
babies fit on you, you will never stop going back to this store. The team being awesome
is just the cherry on top. This was such
an enlightening & freeing experience for me as a 'Curvy Woman' and I could not thank the TKD
enough for this.
